Privacy

What Groundie holds, where it is kept, and what you can do about it.

The short version

Groundie Ltd runs this app. Two different lots of information live in it and they are not treated the same way.

What we hold about you

Your email address, your name if you give one, and what you do in the app so it can work — which business you belong to and what you are allowed to see. If you sign in with a code instead of an email, we hold no email address for you at all.

We use it to run the app and nothing else. We do not sell it, and we do not advertise to you.

What your business writes down

Your clients, quotes, invoices, job sheets, photos, hours and safety records — including the names and signatures of people who were on site and have no account here, such as contractors or traffic management.

That information belongs to your business, not to us. We store it so the app works. Your business decides what goes in it, who sees it, and how long it is kept, and your business is responsible for having told those people about it.

Where it is kept

On Google's business hosting service, which encrypts everything it stores. Some of Google's machines are outside New Zealand. A copy also lives on your own device, so the app keeps working with no signal.

Who can see it

People in your own business, according to what you have given them permission to see. Prices are kept off job sheets and out of a worker's copy entirely.

Nobody at Groundie Ltd reads your records as a matter of course. We can technically reach them, and we will only do so if you ask us to help with a problem, or if we are required to by law. We do not look at your client list.

If you publish a calendar link, whatever that link contains is readable by anybody holding it. The app says so where you turn it on, and lets you choose how much it says.

Getting it back, and getting rid of it

You can export everything from Settings, at any time, without asking us. You can ask for your account and your business's records to be deleted by writing to privacy@groundie.co.nz. You can ask to see what we hold about you and to have it corrected — that is your right under the Privacy Act 2020.

If something goes wrong

If information is lost or reaches somebody it should not have, and it could cause serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as we can. If it is your business's own records, you may have to tell the people affected — we will give you what you need to do that.

This is still being built

The app is not finished and is offered as it is. Keep your own backups. The app tells you how long it has been since your last one.

Asking us something

Write to privacy@groundie.co.nz. If you are not happy with the answer you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
